Something smells over at the City Of Cleveland's Division Of Water, and it isn't Lake Erie Perch...
In January of this year 2009, I received my quarterly water and sewer bills in the mail, just like I had for the past 12 years in my current University Heights residence. Imagine my surprise when upon opening them, they were over 700% higher than they had ever been in all the years I was at this residence.
* Update, January 2010. New Year. More erroneous bills.
(Not this again!)
* Update, April 2011. So far, we're recieving $200.00 + bills every quarter. That's almost 100% more than we were paying a year ago. That's so wrong. On so many levels.
***New Updates***
The Cleveland Water Department wants to increase rates 82 percent over the next 41/2 years for city residents and around 50 percent for suburban customers.
Mayor Frank Jackson's administration presented the proposed rates to City Council on Monday. The legislation is scheduled to be introduced Monday and is expected to draw criticism from suburban mayors who are angry about chronic billing and customer-service problems. To address falling revenues and declining consumption, the water department is proposing to make the bulk of the increase a fixed fee charged to all customers regardless of how much water they use.
Someone send our fantastic Mayor a letter or 2,000, will you please. We did.
In 2009, The City Of Cleveland's Division Of Water billed me $785.00
The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District billed me $616.00
Grand Total- $1401.00

Together, we can drive them nuts, and get our bills corrected!
(Heck...they're driving us nuts, right?)

This is unrelated to billing or rate increases, but it is service-related. On December 1, 2011 the water department informed me that it wanted to change out my meter, but that I had to do some repair on my side of the service connection. I did the repair, and when the Water Dept. came out to install the meter, I alerted them to a leaking shut-off valve in the street in front of my house. The leak was severe enough to fill up the manhole in which it was located and run out to the curb and down to the sewer. They assured me that they would expedite this repair.
Six weeks later, the water continues to run freely from this leak. It has caused some subsidence of the street in front of my driveway. Consequently, the water no longer runs down to the drain, but pools in front of my driveway apron. With the onset of freezing temperatures, the pooled water forms an ice dam at the foot of my driveway, wreaking havoc on the suspension, tires and wheels of my cars. Each time it snows, I have to chip away the ice to avoid damage to my vehicles. Repeated calls to the "emergency" water leak number have resulted in either lies: "it's scheduled to be done today;" or excuses about the huge workload preventing the service department from addressing the problem.

I sold my house on July 27, 2011. I have called at least 8 times to beg the Water Dept to send my final bill to my new address (I moved away from the house i sold). I called a few days before my house sold, a few days after the house sold and then every 2 weeks and then every week. my crazy request is...send my final water bill to my new adress and let me pay the bill. I am dying to pay. I need to pay, want to pay, am begging to pay so that I can get my money the Title Company is holding untill I can show them my final Water bill for the house I sold. The customer service people are A. very stupid or B.unable to do anything except answer the phone when it rings and are instructed to tell you anything to make you end the phone call or C. part of the scam and they know it or D. something even wackier than what I concluded. The customer service is the world's worst. Ability to understand the customer's needs and take appropriate action is worl'd worst. so, if you sell your house, good luck on getting your final water bill and your money from the Title company. You will see. My realtor says it happens to everyone who sells their home in Cuyahoga County.

Ken,
It's crazy how things have progressed. They raise our rates, and all of a sudden the bills come in on time.
Interesting.
Customer service charge?
How about a credit for $10.00 every month for 24 months, for the LOUSY customer service?

Now, besides raising the water bills & not performing their jobs appropriately, they are tacking on an $18 service charge for billing. These people are nuts !!! Cleveland City Council needs to pull their heads out of their a**es.
